4*Chernobyl Day Tour & 3 Night Kiev Stay
In the days after Saturday 26 April 1986 the world held its breath as No. 4 reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian went into meltdown. Now you can venture into the restricted zone and see the abandoned Nuclear Power Plant and the surrounding ghost towns left in the immediate aftermath of the disaster for yourself. It’s a truly unforgettable experience.
You’ll spend 3 nights 4* Bed & Breakfast in the imposing Hotel Ukraine or similar which is located on Independence Square in the heart of Kiev, just a 3-minute walk from the Maidan Nezalezhnosti and Kreschatik Metro Stations. Guests enjoy views of the Kreschatyk Street and the surrounding area.
In-room facilities at the Ukraine Hotel include air-conditioning, satellite TV and a refrigerator. Your bathroom includes free toiletries and perfumes. A large breakfast buffet is included at the Ukraine Hotel, and 24-hour room service is offered. Ukrainian and European cuisine is served for lunch and dinner. The location of the hotel makes getting around a simple task, don’t miss the Kyivo-Pechers'ka Lavra monastery, the Rodina Mat statue, Andriyivski Uzviz church, Saint Sophia Cathedral and Khreshchatyk which is an important street in Old Kiev, lined with beautiful architecture, cafes, shopping, and many nearby monuments and murals.
The on the day of your choice you’ll meet our representative and after the passports verification you’ll take a seat at the comfortable bus. We’ll drive to the Dytyatky 30-km Zone Checkpoint for passport control and a safety rules briefing before entering the Zone, driving to Chernobyl.
Your will see that Chernobyl is virtually a usual Ukrainian small town, where the workers of the power plant and other Exclusion Zone state companies were based. Indeed, when you're first time in the zone, it’s hard to imagine that this town has something to do with the catastrophe of 1986. We stop near the exposition of machinery and equipment which were in use to mitigate the catastrophe consequences and the Monument ‘To Those Who Saved the World’
Then onwards to Chernobyl’s secret object, the DUGA-1 over-the-horizon radar station, now this spectacular structure is one of the most well-known objects of the former USSR. Its exact name is in fact «5H32». The radar was supposed to detect air targets, like launched intercontinental ballistic missiles. The signal emitted by the radar reminded of a woodpecker hammering. For this reason, the object has been nicknamed “the Woodpecker”.
We will then stop for a healthy lunch at a CNPP canteen for a traditional 3 course lunch. There are different options to choose from. A set lunch includes a bowl of soup, salad, main course and soft drinks. This healthy and nourishing lunch will give you energy to keep on exploring the Zone. We recommend adding the lunch to your package as not only is it an experience but food and drink isn’t permitted in the outdoors in the restricted zone.
Then after lunch it will be for many the highlight, the abandoned town of Pripyat. You’ll get to see the “Red” Forest, the Pripyat sign on entering the town, stop on the central square of the town for a walking tour where you will see the Energetic Palace of Culture, Polissya Hotel, the department store, the famous Ferris Wheel, the town hall which became the first headquarters of the governmental commission mitigating the consequences of the accident, the Prometheus Cinema, the river port, sinking pier and kindergarten and school. You will take tons of photos, get absolutely unforgettable impressions and feel really exceptional emotions!
The we move on to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant industrial site, we make a photo-stop at the cooling pond, on the right one can see the unfinished reactors 5 and 6 as well as the huge cooling towers on the left there are nuclear units 1, 2 and 3 and the New Safe Confinement built over No. 4. We’ll be visiting the memorial next to the administrative building of the CHNPP and have the chance to feed the gigantic cat-fish (depends on weather conditions). You will see the New Safe Confinement at the distance of some 300 meters!
We then head back passing Radiological control and then onwards back to Kiev.
