Enjoy a short break in the fashion capital of Italy and take a stunning train journey and lake cruise in the Swiss Alps.

Although seen as the financial capital of Italy, Milan is also the centre of fashion with great high end shopping and fashionable discount outlets within easy reach. Slightly underrated as a tourist destination compared to the likes of Venice and Rome, Milan truly is among the great Italian cities where you can find rich history, art and culture through grand landmarks. These include the majestic Duomo and its grand collection of basilicas.

You’ll stay in the 4* IH Hotels Milano Gioia Hotel or similar. Offering modern stylish rooms, IH Hotels Milano Gioia is set in a quiet area just 1.5 km from Milano Centrale Train Station. Free WiFi is available throughout and the rooms are air-conditioned, and feature a TV with International channels. Breakfast is a generous buffet including sweet and savoury food. The hotel offers a bar area with Sky TV.

During you stay in Milan you’ll experience a ride on the Green Train of the Alps on a spectacular journey across the Swiss Alps from Milan. Then we cross the lake of Thun on a cruise boat to reach the enchanted village of Interlaken.

Depart Milan on a high-speed train for the town of Domodossola, the last Italian frontier before the Swiss border. Here begins your adventure on the “Green train of the Alps!” The train takes you on a journey through the Simplon pass, one of the most beautiful crossings in Switzerland. Cutting between the alps, your knowledgeable English-speaking guide will introduce you to the secrets of mountains and the valleys as they appear before of your eyes.

After around 2 hours of breath-taking panoramas, we arrive in Spiez, on the shores of Lake Thun. Here we stop for a spot of lunch (not included), before departing on our cruise to Interlaken, on a state of the art steamboat. Whilst crossing the lake, take a moment to snap some pictures of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, 3 famous mountains whose recognisable shapes reflect in the light blue water of the lake.

Once in the Interlaken, enjoy time to explore the picturesque architecture or take a walk around the shore where you can marvel at the hang gliders peacefully soaring over the snow-capped alps in the distance. Aside from beautiful views, don’t forget to try some of the world’s finest Swiss chocolate at the one of the many local specialty chocolatiers that dot the town.

In the late afternoon, we take the train back to Domodossola, before returning to Milan on an air-conditioned coach.

Excursion departs on a Sunday & Monday so flight departures are on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday from the UK.
